CHOICES
IN POTTY TRAINING
I have been working on collecting
some of the best products for use in helping your child potty learn.
The product you will want to use will depend both
on the level of
training level your child may be at and your style of potty
training. Some parents start early at about a year, others not
until 3.5 and there are parents and toddlers all in between.
Read the descriptions of each of the types of trainers first to see
which style will meet your potty training goals best. Then,
narrow it down to a particular brand in that style. Realize
that you may have one-style for day at home and another for going
out or even overnight.

Pull-on Diaper
If you are just at the beginning of
your potty training adventure you may want to start with a product
that works as a pull-on diaper. In this category, you would
want a product that can have the absorbency of a diaper, that can be
pulled up and down for potty learning, and that has snaps on both
sides so it can be removed in the event of a poopy accident.
The Pull-on Diaper (with
or without side snaps) is also often the choice for toddlers and older
children for overnight use. Like pocket diapers inserts can be
added to this group of trainers to bring it up to the absorbency
levels that your child may need. Most of the trainers listed
would need extra inserts to have the absorbency of a diaper.
If you have been cloth diapering already, then inserts you have on
hand are likely to work well. The main advantage in this style
of potty training is a trainer that goes up and down more easily
than a diaper.

Waterproof Training Pant
If you are actively helping your
child to potty learn, then a waterproof training pant with some
absorbency protection is preferred. Ideally this potty
learning product would have enough absorbency to catch an accident
and save the embarrassment of a puddle on the floor. This type
of pant would not have the absorbency of a diaper and would need to
be changed soon after an accident. It would meet the needs
well of the potty training parent who is actively engaging their
child with a potty session every hour to hour and a half. The
main advantage to this trainer is an easy up and down solution and a
trimmer less diaper like solution. Most parents in this
situation are choosing the "will feel wetness" style.

Waterproof Underwear
Once your child is having consistent
success with using the potty, waterproof underwear will provide an
underwear like fit and feel while still allowing waterproof
protection for that just in case time. If your child is ready to go
out in underwear but you want to play it safe this may be your best
solution. These
trainers are used often at home with younger toddlers who
are not yet communicating when they wet and with older toddlers
out and about. When out and about, if an accident happens,
the trainer will need to be changed immediately.
Main advantage of this style is a underwear look and feel with a
waterproof layer for the oops.

Stylish, but in
this category they look the least like underwear. In
this style it would be used alone without additional

accidents. |
Padded Underwear
Many parents will choose thicker
underwear for use by the child before moving into standard cotton
underwear. This will contain a trickle as the child works to
make it to the potty in time.
However, if planning to use padded underwear with plastic pants
over them we have found most parents are more satisfied with
using the waterproof underwear style of trainer listed above.
Overnight Bedwetting Solutions
Sometime bedwetting can last long
past the potty training stage. We understand that their isn't
much we can do as parents in this case but we do want to protect the
bed and sheets so we are not doing laundry all the time. For
young toddlers overnight, they often don't mind wearing whatever
cloth diaper they were wearing before potty learning began.
However, older toddlers and young children can become sensitive and
want something to keep them dry and comfortable that doesn't look
like a diaper. For this style, parents often opt for the Stay-dry
since the child is sleeping through the night.
Parents are tired of throwing out a
disposable Pull-On diaper in the morning that may or may not be wet
as they wonder how long this will last. We have found parents
and children alike have been quite pleased with a reusable
bedwetting solution.
