UNIFORMITY - A Diapering Style

Some caregivers find diapering to be easier when all of their diapers are uniform and the same.  They want to find a diapering system that will meet their needs without making unnecessary decisions in regards to color or style, etc.  If this is your style, you will probably be happiest if you find one diaper you love and stick with it.

You will want to thoroughly evaluate the other Diapering Styles to determine what will meet your needs best on the spectrum of Economics vs. Convenience.  Then choose one set of diapers to meet your need.

Questions to ask to see if this choices may be best for you?

Will you be using child care on a daily basis?

If yes, then choosing diapers that are uniform for your day care provider is often advisable.  A great trick is to choose one color for regular day use and a second color for naptime.  The naptime diapers can have an added doubler for extra absorbency during naps.  This choice makes it simple for your care provider to have success with diapering.

Do I only require uniformity for different uses?

Some people use one type of diaper such as prefolds and covers at home.  They use another easier diaper like a pocket or AIO diaper for out and about. And lastly, they choose a highly absorbent diapering option for use overnight.  However, in each of these 3 areas the stay with one brand and style.

Do I need uniformity in color?

Some caregivers want uniformity even to the extent of color.  They want all their diapers to be white, or pink, or ____.  If this is your style, plan to order your diapers in advance to allow for time to get the one color you prefer.

Does my spouse need uniformity?

You may need to have a set of diapers that just your spouse uses for diapering.  This allows both parents to have success while cloth diapering.

Products that tend to fill this diapering style best but would be flexible enough to meet most diapering needs.

AIO Diapers - give you one piece diapering put diaper on, take off, wash and reuse. You would want extra doublers for naps and overnight.  Generally these diapers require a longer dry time. To compare AIO diapers check out this article

One-Size Pocket Diapers - combine some convenience with economics. Great choice for daycare usage.  Easy system and a common favorite for the uniformity.  May need extra hemp doublers for overnight usage. To compare one-size pocket diapers check out this article.

Pocket Diapers - once the absorbent insert is added this diaper is as easy to use as an AIO diaper.  The advantage is the diaper will wash clean easier and dry faster than standard AIO diapers.

Fitted Diapers and Covers - Fitteds are an excellent choice for containing newborn poo.  The fitted is washed and the cover is aired for reuse. For overnight use we would suggest a fitted with stay-dry fabric on the inside for baby's comfort.

Prefold Diapers and Covers - Using prefolds and covers is quite economical and can meet the needs for diapering.  For overnight use we highly recommend using something other than prefolds and covers to get a greater amount of absorbency for a fraction of the bulk and to have a diaper on baby that can keep baby feeling dry.

Other necessary accessories would include:

6-8 extra doublers for naps and overnight

18-30 cloth wipes (a good rule: have as many wipes as you have diapers)

1 small/medium wet bag for the diaper bag

1 large wet bag - if you are planning  to travel out of town

1-2 large wet bags for daycare use

1-2 pail liners

Nice to have accessories for the older baby:

Flushable diaper liners

Diaper sprayer
