HOW TO WASH NEW DIAPERS BEFORE USE
General
Recommendations by Product Type
Wash
1 to 3 times before use. Dry
on medium or line dry. Wash
on hot 3 times before use. Dry on medium heat in dryer. Wash
once before use. Dry
on medium heat or line dry.
Hemp Inserts and Prefolds
Hemp
products contain lots of natural oils, so it will take several
washings before they reach maximum absorbency. Washing them 3-5
times in hot water before use is usually sufficient.
Hemp products will continue to gain in absorbency during
their first set of 10 washes. Wash
once before use. Dry
on low heat. Before
use wash prefold diapers on hot 5 times with detergent.
Wash on hot once without detergent. Dry on high heat in
dryer. Wash once before use. Dry on medium heat or line dry.
PUL
Covers Wash
once before use. Dry
on medium heat or line dry. Wash once before use. Line dry.
Training
Pants Wash
once before use. Dry
on medium heat. Wool
Covers will need to be lanolized before use.
Lanolizing is done by dissolving a small (pea-sized) amount of
pure lanolin (such as Lansinoh) in hot water
and adding a drop of wool wash to the hot water solution to
help dissolve the lanolin. Add the lanolin solution to a basin of tepid water and gently
stir befor adding your cover.
Allow the cover to soak for about 15 minutes. After
soaking, wrap your cover in a towel to squeeze out excess water
and hang dry. Specific
Recommendations by Brand
BABYKICKS
PREFOLDS, INSERTS, & DOUBLERS Please
wash your new BabyKicks Prefold Diapers, Joeybunz Inserts, or
Babykicks Doublers three times using a hot water cycle with
detergent before use. The manufacturer of Babykicks does recommend
drying the diapers between washings.
Note that the diapers will continue to gain in absorbency in
the next 6-8 washes. When possible, I find it helpful to boil hemp 10-15
minutes before washing. Also
it is advisable to wash these initially separate from other
diapering items. Blueberry
Minky Diaper Covers should be pre-washed at least once before use. Blueberry
diapers need to be pre-washed at least once before use. Please wash
on hot and dry your Insert for the Blueberry diaper separately
(separate from diapers). Inserts should be washed and dried 3-4
times before use. We want you to avoid the initial
washing of hemp inserts together with pocket diapers as this may
cause the oils from the hemp inserts to coat the fleece on the
pocket diapers and cause the
fleece to repel. Blueberry
diapers need to be pre-washed at least once before use. Please wash
on hot and dry your Insert for the Blueberry diaper separate from
diapers. Inserts should be washed and dried 3-4
times before use. We want you to avoid the initial
washing of hemp inserts together with pocket diapers as this may
cause the oils from the hemp inserts to coat the fleece on the
pocket diapers and cause the

Tumble dry on a medium setting. Wash
the BumGenius One-Size Diaper once before use.

warm water and dried at a regular setting in the dryer once before
use. Do not over dry. The
Bummis Super Brite covers should be washed in hot or warm water and

Bummis Swimmi diaper should be washed in hot or warm water and dried
at a regular setting in the dryer once before use. Do not over dry. Drybees
pocket diapers should be washed once before use. Wash your diaper in
hot water with a reduced amount of detergent. You may dry your
Drybees Cloth Diapers in the dryer, or outside on a clothesline.
If drying in the dryer, wait until diapers are completely cool
before stretching, pulling on, or stuffing diapers or you may ruin
the diaper’s elastic. DryBees Pockets, Night Times, or
Lacies are all washed the same. You may want to
wash brightly colored Night Time Fleece diapers separately the first
time to ensure that the bright fleeces do not bleed in the wash. Fuzzi
Bunz Diapers with inserts should be pre-washed at least once before
use. Unbleached
Prefolds will need 6 prewashes before use to remove some of the
natural waxes of the cotton fibers.
I suggest washing 5 times with a proper amount of detergent.
Washing once with no detergent and then drying in the dryer. Hemp
Babies Prefolds, Flats, and Inserts should be pre-washed 3-5 times in
hot water with a small amount of detergent, drying between each
wash. The Hemp Babies products will shrink to the correct size and
becomes absorbent during this pre-wash process. Happy
Heiny One Size Diapers with inserts should be pre-washed at least
once before use. Happy
Heiny Diapers should be pre-washed at least once before use. Happy
Heiny Pocket Trainer should be pre-washed at least once before use. Heiny
Hugger fitted diapers from Happy Heiny should be washed before use.
Choose a warm-hot wash setting. You may notice that the diapers
produce a bit of lint in the beginning, this is normal for cotton
sherpa.
Diapers may be dried in the diaper on high heat. Kissaluvs
fitted diapers should be washed on hot several times to reach
initial absorbency. Wash only about a dozen or so at a time for the
initial pre-washes. The fabric of the Kissaluvs fitted diapers will
lint a bit in these early washes. Wash and dry bright or dark
fabrics on hot/high several times before mixing with lighter colored
diapers. Depending on your water source and temperature, you may
need fewer or additional washings, so always test colorfastness
before mixing wet diapers of varying colors (e.g., toss in a white
rag during the first two washing and drying cycles). The
Imse Vimse All-in-one Diaper should be washed once before use.
Wash in washing machine up to 60°C/140°F. Dry on medium heat or line dry. IMSE
VIMSE ORGANIC COTTON COVERS The
Imse Vimse Organic Cotton Diaper Cover should be washed once before
use. Wash in washing machine up to 60°C/140°F. Covers maintain
their best appearance if line dried. The
Imse Vimse Soft Diaper Cover should be washed once before
use. Wash in washing machine up to 60°C/140°F. Covers maintain
their best appearance if line dried. The
Imse Vimse Swim Diapers should be washed once before use.

drying recommendation may be a European influence. Europeans
generally air dry any clothing that reasonably can be air dried.
Imse
Vimse Wool covers should be lanolized before use for them to
function properly. Wool wash products like Eucalan do not provide
sufficient initial lanolizing.
The
outer wool shell of the Loveybums Wool-in-One diaper will need to be
lanolized before use and comes with their own kit.

lanolin (such as Lansinoh
cream) in tepid water and soaking your cover for about 15
minutes. Adding a drop of wool
wash to the water may also help to dissolve the lanolin. After
soaking, wrap your cover in a towel to squeeze out excess water and
hang dry. For the
inside absorbent diaper part of the LIO please wash on hot or
warm before use with a mild detergent; tumble or line dry. No
bleach or fabric softener.

least once before use. Choose a hot wash, with extra rinse if
necessary. Dry on low
to medium heat or hang to dry. MOMMY’S
TOUCH ONE-SIZE ALL-IN-ONE DIAPERS Mommy’s Touch One-size All-in-one Diapers should be pre-washed at
least once before use. Choose
a hot wash, with extra rinse if necessary.

once before use. The manufacture does recommend washing three
to four times, and dried in between for best results. This
pre-washing process allows the cotton fibers of the top layer to
fluff up and become more absorbent. The diaper may experience
leaking if it has not been pre-washed sufficiently. The
Swaddlebees Pocket diapers need to be pre-washed at least
once before use. The manufacture does recommend washing three
to four times, and dried in between for best results. This
pre-washing process allows the cotton fibers of the top layer to
fluff up and become more absorbent. The diaper may experience
leaking if it has not been pre-washed sufficiently. Wash
and dry your Swaddlebees Fitted Diapers both the Organic Velour
Cotton and the Organic Velour Cotton Pocket once in warm water*
prior to first use. Washing the diaper before
use will allow the fibers to shrink, fluff up, and become more
absorbent. It is not necessary to wash Swaddlebees fitted
diapers more than once before use however realize that the diaper
will continue to shrink and get thicker over the first few washes.
This shrinkage has been allowed for when designing the diapers.
